| Why Carving by hand? |
To use power tools before understanding how to carve will limit
the variety of shapes you can make. A hammer and chisel are much more precise than any
air or electric tool. What you accomplish with a hand chisel will be decisive. You
will be a better carver if you learn to carve by hand first. A power tool removes
stone faster than your mind can think. Errors which require redesigning your sculpture are
frustrating and time consuming. Knowing what you are making and how to carve
with hand tools will avoid this problem. |
